The itinerary, day by day
One hike a day, with time for the island. Every route has a full guide on this site, with the rules, the booking and what the path is like.
Day 1: Arrival in Funchal
Pick-up at the airport and check-in at the hotel. In the late afternoon the group gets to know each other on foot around the Old Town and the Mercado dos Lavradores.
Day 2: Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo
Sunrise at 1818 m and the 6.1 km crossing to the highest point of the island, coming out at Achada do Teixeira, where the transport waits. The toughest day of the week.
Day 3: Levada das 25 Fontes and Porto Moniz
The Rabaçal levada to the 25 Fontes lagoon and, in the afternoon, the natural volcanic rock pools of Porto Moniz.
Day 4: Monte and a free afternoon in Funchal
Cable car up to Monte and the ride down in the wicker toboggans. The afternoon is free: the right day for the extra photo shoot.
Day 5: Ponta de São Lourenço
The eastern tip of the island, between cliffs with the sea on both sides, on an easy route. A stop in Machico on the way back.
Day 6: Caldeirão Verde and farewell dinner
A levada through the Laurisilva forest of Santana to the Caldeirão Verde waterfall. In the evening, the farewell dinner, where the memories of the week are handed out.
Day 7: Departure
A free morning, depending on your flight time, and the transfer to the airport.
If a route closes or the weather turns, we swap the order of the days or the hike.
What is included
Everything the week needs, except the flight: we quote that separately, from your city, for the dates of the group.

- The return flight, which we quote for the dates of the group.
- Meals not listed in the proposal: the exact list comes with the dates and the hotel.

Is the flight included?
No. The price is per person for the 7 days and 6 nights on the island. We quote the flight separately, from your city, for the dates of the group.
Can I go on my own?
Yes. The groups are designed for people travelling alone or with friends: there is a mixed group, a women’s group, a men’s group and a group for making friends.
How many people are in each group?
Twelve. It is a small group, where the guide and the photographer look after everyone.
Do I need to be fit?
You need to enjoy walking. There are easy days and two demanding days, level 4 out of 5: Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and the Levada do Caldeirão Verde. The guide to each route gives the time, the distance and the climbs.
How does the early booking price work?
The earlier you book, the less you pay: €990 booking 6 months ahead, €1140 at 4 months, €1190 at 3 months and €1290 up to departure, per person. Booking early also gets you an extra.
What if it rains or a route closes?
We swap the order of the days or the route. In Madeira the weather changes quickly, especially in the mountains, and routes can close after IFCN warnings.
